Finding my passions

My Grandfather once told me that you shouldn't work a job because of how much it pays because work will become a four letter word. Instead you should work in a job that makes you happy, one that is something you really love. And then no matter how much you make you will love going to work.

Thanks Grandpa, but how the heck do you figure out what you love? Well...I googled it. (Oh Google how I heart thee!) So here I go. :)

1. What puts a smile on your face?
Events-weddings, auctions, walk/runs,birthday parties...you name it. I love the challenge of taking a whole event and breaking it down into a million tiny pieces and trying to fit together. It is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. You can see the big picture but each piece by itself means nothing.

Traveling-The thrill of putting together a trip. Getting off the beaten trail and exploring things at a native level. Meeting people who may not share anything in common with me other than a smile. Sleeping in hotels/hostels/motels. Eating food that is beyond mind blowing....even if you don't fully understand whats in it. The pictures. The people. The smells and colors. Even thinking about a trip puts a smile on my face and a buzzing feeling in my blood.

Crafting- Not in the "I-want-to-create-a-scrapbook" kind of way, but in the "How-can-I-make-my-home-better" kind of way. I love taking furniture and recreating it. I love pulling a room together. So maybe a better title for this section is crafting/home decor.

2. What do you find easy?
Talking to people-I love finding out people's stories. Ever since I was a little girl I would think as we drove past people's homes, what is going on in there? I am fascinated by how people construct their stories to be the person that they are. I find it easy to sit with someone over tea and just chat.

3. What sparks your creativity?
I have always enjoyed untangling jewelry that gets knotted it up. I like the patience it takes to sit down and undo the knots. I think that is why I love when someone hands me a project and says, I can kind of see the big picture but I need help untangling it, all sorts of creativity gets sparked inside of me. I love finding ideas and putting them into actions. I love creating the big picture from a tangled pile of knots.

4. What would you do for free?
Travel-Hands down. First thing that popped in my head.

Plan weddings-Second thing that popped in my head.

5.What do you like to talk about?
Weddings- Even if I am not in them or involved in them in any way, shape or form. I love hearing about the colors, the invitations, the cake toppers, the venues, the guests. I talk about it till the cows came home. (Which is a weird saying if you ask me....where did the cows go?)

6 .What makes you unafraid of failure?
Planning events- I know I am good at it. I know I love it. I know when I start the ball rolling it is going to happen and I am going to feel amazing at the end of it.

Travelling- Even if my trip doesn't go as planned the stories I will bring back will be worth every misstep.

Creating- Some of my best things have been happy accidents

7. What would you regret not having tried?
Owning my own business.

Okay...so I answered your questions Google. What I am seeing are events, traveling and creating. How can I make this into a job? That is the real question huh?

"No question is so difficult to answer as to that which the answer is so obvious."
-George Bernard Shaw

P.S. My crafting project will be up in the near future...promise!!!

Ellson love it! Few comments.

For finding people's stories - and if you can't find their story you're great a making them up too. =) Remember the couple we were trying to figure out their story and they had just got engaged!

For jewelry untangling - you are amazing at it. My necklace and I thank you. Btw, its gonna need some untangling again, it was naughty the other day. It also found other friends to be naughty too. Can I bring them by for you to discipline?

For events, traveling, creating - um, I think you know what job this is. A traveling event planner/diy interior designer specializing in weddings and the homes of the newlyweds. No, its not too long of a title. Yes, it could be a package deal. Like "let me plan your wedding and diy design your new home while you honeymoon, which I will have planned too". I think that'd be an amazing job and you'd rock it. And it'd be your own business! Just another lisa idea which I think is my best yet - don't toss it out of the equation. =)

Go Google! And Ellson!
