...so I have been in my grown up job for a whole week now. I love my job. My boss, Linda, is really passionate about the cause that the organization is working towards. She has some great long term goals but just needs help figuring out the little steps to achieving those long term goals...and that is where I come in!! I have a lot of great ideas...most of which involves organizing the office! Last week I already had three meetings and worked at an event and I got some GREAT ideas for the next event which I am planning in November. It is going to be a very busy and hard year that is for sure. But I know that it is a worthy cause.
Story Time:
Linda ordered me a computer so Sarah (The other part-time staff) and I would not have to share the computer in the main office. The screen came last Monday and the tower didn't come until Thursday or so....and they were shipped on the same day which makes the postal service...well FedEx...not very efficient. Bless their hearts for trying!
This morning Linda and I met to go over the list of things that I need to get done in the next two weeks...she is going to Canada on Wednesday for vacation...lucky lady! It is a long list and I have two training events I will be attending the first week of September...so I definitely will have enough to keep me busy! After the meeting Sarah and I decided to tackle the setting up of my computer in my new office(actually it is a closet with a desk and a picture on the wall...but it is mine!!!) When I say that Sarah and I tackled setting up the computer...that is pretty much exactly what we did.
Now before I share this AMAZING story with you let me tell you that Sarah and I are both college graduates, in fact Sarah has her masters. So...we are smart kids. Honest! And we even work well in a team... so the fact that the computer almost beat us this morning should not reflect on our intelligence. Really!
Back to the story...so we struggled a bit getting the pieces unwrapped (should have been our first clue) but these packing people do NOT want you to be able to actually use the computer. After we got everything unwrapped it was the game of...plug things in where WE think they should go and then repluging them in where the COMPUTER people think they should go. Pssh...whatever. After we finally got the thing turned on and Windows set up came... the 'fun' (I use this term VERY loosely) of setting up and installing the wireless card.
Now for all you smart people out there are probably like...doesn't sound to hard. Installing and setting up wireless. No problem. To all of you....I hate you...okay maybe not really but I really dislike you! ;) It took Sarah and I...3 HOURS!!!! And I wish I was making this up. We had to install and uninstall like a BAZILLION times. Mostly because we did not know the passphrase we needed. We through all the files and did every combination that we could think of. We ended up using the easy button (and yes I am dead serious) and resetting the system and FINALLY were able to connect my computer to the internet.
Great right?!!!! WRONG! Once we got all settled after lunch we discovered that Sarah's computer no longer could access the internet!! WHAT?! So after a really good laugh...that was very close to hysteria...we just ended up uninstalling her internet and reinstalling it....just in time for her to leave and the book keeper to show up.
Now you may have seen an easier way...but the moral of this story is....WE WIN. HAHA!!!
Go Sarah and Kaitlin!!!!
And my computer earned his name (for those who don't know me well, I name all my elctronics!) His name....drumroll please....Thomas...a.ka. The little computer that could!
So that was my very eventful second Monday!
That and I set up an extended fundraiser with Wetzel Preztel here in the Mall starting October 30th going through to January 6th. We get 20% of the proceeds if people come in with one of our fliers.
So...it has been a satisfying day for sure!!!
Best,
Kaitlin
